Dedication Held For Local Late Sheriff

A late local sheriff will never be forgotten, with a special dedication held in his honor Wednesday morning in Corning(Play Audio)

Those words, provided by Deputy Reserve Russel Lierz, of the Nemaha County Sheriff's office, set the stage for the late morning dedication held in honor of late Nemaha County Sheriff David Mee. 

The ceremony, arranged by the Kansas Department of Transportation, was held to unveil the new signage dedicating a 17-mile stretch of K-9 Highway, in Nemaha County, as “The David Mee Memorial Highway”(Play Audio)

The special remembrance for the late sheriff was made possible following Kansas Legislature approval of the bill , introduced in January by State Representative Randy Garber, of Sabetha, to rename the stretch of highway(Play Audio)

Also sharing memories of Mee was current Nemaha County Sheriff Rich Vernon(Play Audio) 

Kansas Highway Patrol trooper Todd Helm also spoke, sharing his memories of the time that Mee served as his training officer(Play Audio) 

Following the remarks, the crowd observed the sign unveiling, making official the special dedication in Mee's honor. 

Mee served as Nemaha County Sheriff from 2001 until his death in 2006.
