The award tallies up the finishes from each athletic program at schools across the state in their respective class and with Centralia great performance in multiple sports they earned the top spot.
The great athletic year for the Panthers started earlier with success for both the football and volleyball programs. After starting the year off with a few losses in football Centralia would answer with a solid stretch run to make it to the 2-1A state championship game where they would meet up against LaCrosse. Centralia would settle for just making the state championship as they came away with the 20-14 win in the championship game, capturing the state title, finishing the season with a 10-3 record.
For the volleyball squad they, too were quite successful as they made it to the state tournament and finished as runner-up in Class 1A-Division I, falling in three sets to St. John Hudson in the championship (25-21, 23-25 and 25-12). The lady Panthers finished their season 43-2, good for another illustrious season in volleyball for Centralia.
The success didn't stop with the volleyball and football programs as both the girls and boys basketball teams won their sub-state's to punch their tickets to the Class 1A-Division I state tournaments. Unfortunately, both their seasons would end with first round losses to Waverly and Udall, respectively.
Spring sports season for Centralia was highlighted by the boys track team who tied for second at state with 38 total team points. Thirty of those points came at the hands, or should say behind the legs of one athlete, Lukas Koch. Koch notched gold medal finishes in the 800, 1600 and 3200-meters at the state track meet in Wichita.
Overall Northeast Kansas area enjoyed great high school sports performances once again this year, with Centralia being one of the highlights, earning them the Class 1A All-Sports award.
