Saturday Ceremonies Set for Independence Celebrations
06/29/2012

The Independence Day Holiday will be commemorated early around the area, with ceremonies set for Saturday.

The Community of Goff will also host numerous events-including a parade-during the 60th annual Independence Celebration, sponsored by the local Lion's Club.

Beginning at high noon, a classic car, truck and motorcycle show, hosted by the Wetmore Men's Club, will be held.

At the same time, the food stand will open, followed by the 2:00 start of child-themed activities, including games, running until 4:00.

At 5:00, the Lion's Club will begin selling funnel cakes, leading up to the parade at 6:00.

Once the parade concludes, more activities, including kids games and a horseshoe pitching contest will be held, leading up to the 8:00 start of the evening's musical entertainment, featuring Gary Bell's Country Band.

Once the music concludes, and dusk settles in, the fireworks will be launched, commemorating the nation's independence.

Also on Saturday, the Brown County community of Everest will be alive with activities, as the annual Fun Day and Fireworks is held.

Beginning at 7:00 Saturday morning, with the Lion's Club pancake feed, a 5K run/walk will follow at 8:00, starting with a 7:30 registration.

At 2:00 Saturday afternoon, Car Show registration will begin; and, as the show is underway, rides and games will be held beginning at 4:00.

At 4:30, a horseshoe tournament will be held, with Pedal Power Races kicking-off at 5:00.

A smoked brisket and pulled pork dinner, with all the fixings, starts at 6:30, for a free will donation.  At 7:00, if weather allows, hot air balloon rides will be given, as kids games begin at the same time.

At dusk, the traditional fireworks display will light up the sky, followed by a family movie at the football field.

Sponsored by the Everest Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Everest, the Fun Day will also include the American Legion Red Solo Cup event throughout the evening.

The third ceremony planned for Saturday will take place in the City of Sabetha, where a fireworks display will be held that night, beginning at 10:00.

The City of Seneca, meanwhile, will celebrate several days after the Fourth , with ceremonies planned for Saturday evening, July 7th.

Set to happen at the Spring Creek Golf Course, activities get underway at 5:00, including, for a free will donation, a hog roast dinner, hay rack rides, face painting, and a bounce house.

Once the daylight fades to evening, and the night time begins to settle in, a professional fireworks display will light up the sky in honor of the holiday.
