Fire Ban in Missouri Conservation Areas
06/29/2012

The Missouri State Conservation Department has put an immediate ban on fire in all conservation areas. That means no campfires or other open fires--not even in charcoal grills. The use of fireworks already is prohibited.  Wildland Fire Supervisor Ben Webster says this is a scary time.  (play audio  :27  ”go”)
Webster says fires can quickly get out of control. (play audio  :17  “ignited now.”)
Webster says a lot of people are camping out about this time...and especially during the July 4th holiday.  Many of those campsites are located in rural areas, where Webster says it’s often difficult for fire fighters to reach in order to suppress a fire.  He says anyone who sees a fire starting should call for help immediately.  (play audio  :33   “themselves.”)
