More blood drives are scheduled later this month in southeast Nebraska, as the Red Cross blood supply remains at low levels.
According to the Red Cross office in Omaha, which serves all of Nebraska, western Iowa, and parts of Kansas and Colorado, donations in the month of June fell 50-thousand units short of what was needed. They say the number of donations is down the first week in July, too, with many donors on vacation, coupled with the mid-week July 4th holiday.
Despite the drop in donations, the need remains constant with a patient in the United States needing blood approximately every two seconds.
Upcoming blood drives in southeast Nebraska include:
-In Johnson County on July 23rd at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institute.
-In Nemaha County, July 23rd and 24th at the 4H Building in Auburn,
and July 24th at the Nemaha County Hospital.
-In Pawnee County on July 31st, at the Methodist Church in Pawnee City.
-And in Richardson County, July 26th and 27th at Prichard Auditorium in Falls City, and July 28th at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Falls City.
Red Cross officials say all blood types are needed, but especially O-positive, O-negative, B-negative, and A-negative. You can make an appointment, or find more information by calling 1-800-733-2726 or visiting www.redcrossblood.org.
