A Horton teenager receives a ticket from the City's police department; but, instead of receiving a minor penalty, he is charged 65-dollars and accused of child endangerment-the child being himself.
The 15-year-old's father, Dirk Waser, brought the issue before the Horton City Commission when they met Monday(Play Audio)
Waser told the Commission his biggest concern was the hypocrisy of the situation, based upon his observation that a Horton Police Officer was driving without a seatbelt(Play Audio)
Waser, who made no apologies for opposition to primary seatbelt laws within the city, also voiced concern about how those ticketed are selected, and who is doing the enforcement(Play Audio)
Police Commissioner Jeremy Forkenbrock addressed the issue, saying the police department has been reminded, on several occasions, that seatbelts must be worn.
Forkenbrock says he believes the situation has been remedied; and despite his own personal opposition to the state's primary seatbelt law, and the incomplete data used to get it passed, also, in his line of work as EMT, makes sure to wear a seatbelt as an example for other citizens.
