( KNZA )--The city of Sabetha has agreed to participate in a feasibility study on a Northeast Kansas Regional Water System.
The Sabetha City Commission agreed this week to move forward as one of the sponsors for a grant to help fund a study on the concept.
Bryan Mellage with the Auburn Lake Company approached commissioners last month about the proposal.
He asked that the city consider partnering with other cities from just east of Marysville to Hiawatha to consider the regional water concept.
Mellage is looking at seeking a grant through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment that would provide $12,500 in matching funds for the study, if approved.
He said that the sponsor cities would have no financial obligation for the application or study.
He said interest in the project stems from the Auburn Lake Company’s hope to build a large lake in southeast Nebraska.
