Authorities are continuing to investigate the death of a man who led law enforcement officers on a chase through two counties Monday night.
According to a joint press release from the Nebraska State Patrol and Richardson County Attorney, the pursuit began at 10:40 Monday night near Pawnee City and reached speeds of 85 miles-per-hour before ending at approximately 11:35 p.m., just north of Highway 4 on 646 Avenue near Humboldt in Richardson County.
A preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle, a blue Dodge Dually pickup, left the road and went into a soybean field after the front tires were flattened by stop sticks officers had deployed. The subject had a rope around his neck and the rope was attached to the vehicle. Authorities say it appears he jumped out of the vehicle while it was still moving.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family. An autopsy has been scheduled. No other information was immediately available due to the continuing investigation.
The pursuit involved officers from the Nebraska State Patrol, Pawnee and Richardson County Sheriff’s Department.
