(KNZA)--Horton City Commissioners are moving forward with setting the budget for fiscal year 2013, arranging to meet with city department heads to iron out the details.
Currently, based on the raw figures at hand, the mill levy stands at 75 ½ mills, compared to last year's rate of around 65.
With one mill totaling around 6-thousand-dollars, Commissioners, meeting this week, voiced their desire to see any substantial increase avoided.
In their effort to do so, they have arranged a special meeting, for later this month, in order to meet on one one with the department heads and go, line item by line item, through each department's budget.
That is scheduled to happen Monday, July 30th, beginning at 7:00 that morning, at Horton City Hall.
Meanwhile, Commissioners continue to work towards an agreement regarding water use with the Horton golf course and country club.
Operating under the company name G&C Properties, LLC, representatives of the golf course, including Scott Cowley, met with the Commission this week.
The company uses water from Mission Lake, as allowed by the state, for watering the golf course.
The Commission has been working to clean up wording in the original agreement, and Cowley voiced concerns based on those changes, and the reasons for changes made by the attorney for his company(Play Audio)
Lengthy discussion was held on the matter Monday night, with all details explored.
Ultimately, it was decided that Horton City Attorney Kevin Hill will confer with the company's attorney, Hillary Boye, of Hiawatha, and iron out the wording prior to any final decision being approved.
