(KTNC)- The back-and-forth continues over a new law enforcement contract between Pawnee City and Pawnee County. The ball was back in the county commission’s court after the Pawnee City Council Monday night made an offer of a one-and-a-half percent increase in the contract amount for a one-year contract.
The county had proposed a three-percent annual increase over three years after the City Council had rejected increases of 4.5 and 6 percent. City Auditor Julie Bauman, though, recommended the city not increase the law enforcement contract any higher than the percentage salary increase given to city employees.
Bauman had recommended a two-percent increase, but the council approved an ordinance to increase employee salaries by 1.5-percent. The council also proposed increasing the law enforcement contract by the same amount and sent the proposal back to the County Commission for consideration.
In other business Monday night, the Pawnee City Council approved the final reading of an ordinance setting up a Wellhead Protection Program. The program protects an area around the Pawnee City well field from large livestock facilities and fuel storage facilities. A copy of the Wellhead Protection Program is available for review in the City Office during regular business hours.
The council approved a 12-month extension of the Storefront Enhancement Incentive Grant projects with MGG Enterprises.
Approval was given to have the city’s backhoe repaired at a cost of $12,800.
And the council approved a motion to have the City Code Book updated with recently passed ordinances.
