(KAIR) -- After several months of discussion, the Easton City Council has decided to raise their water rates.
According to City Clerk Jere Chieppo, the monthly rate will go from nine dollars and 41 cents for the first thousand gallons to 17 dollars and 40 cents.
For each additional thousand gallons produced, the rate jumped from five dollars and 42 cents to 10 dollars and two cents.
Chieppo explains the reasoning for the increase, which will take effect in October.

This is the first increase for Easton since March of 2010.
The city is also under a voluntary water conservation notice until further notice.
Chieppo says things like watering lawns, filling swimming pools or hand-washing vehicles are discouraged.
The council also authorized the next step in their water treatment renovation project.
They authorized the city engineer to seek approval from KDHE to study the plant.
The council also decided to start accepting sealed bids for the sale of their Community Center.
Bids will be taken until September 4th at noon.
The council also heard a proposal for next year’s Independence Day festivities.
A guarantee was made to have fireworks for next year after not having that portion of the festivities due to the lack of a licensed technician this year.
