Richardson Co. to Go to Court Over Bridge Collapse
09/13/2012

(KLZA) Richardson County Commissioners have scheduled a public hearing for 11 a-m on Tuesday, September 25th on setting the 2012 tax levy for Richardson County at a different rate than 2011.  In other budget action Tuesday Commissioners approved the allowable additional 1-percent budget authority for fiscal year 2012-13.

Following an executive session with County Attorney Bob Meyer, Commissioners voted to reject an offer from the insurance company for Hiawatha-based Ag Partners Cooperative for a bridge collapse northwest of Humboldt in April.  The offer was for $375,000.  Commissioners had offered to settle for $700,000 on August 31st.  The board authorized the County Attorney’s Office to proceed with filing suit to recover the full cost of damages.

Highway Superintendent Scott Huppert reviewed plans with the Commissioners for the hard surfacing of the Preston Road from the Nebraska Department of Roads with the bid letting scheduled for October 4th.  Commissioners then voted to approve the plan for construction of the Preston North South Road as presented.
