(KNZA)--A jury trial is set for a Mayetta man arrested in July for numerous charges, including attempted first degree murder.

35-year-old Brian Eugene Vaught appeared for arraignment Wednesday in Jackson County District Court, pleading “not guilty” to all charges in the case.

A jury trial is now set for the entire week of December 3rd.

Vaught was arrested July 21st following a series of events, starting with a call from the Holton Wal-Mart regarding a domestic violence incident.

Holton Police responded, and an investigation, involving the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, was launched.

It was learned from the female victim in the alleged incident that she and her 5-year-old daughter had earlier been held captive at Vaught's home.

It was there, authorities say, that Vaught threatened her and the child with firearms, and twice strangled the woman until she lost consciousness.

Managing to escape, the victim fled to Wal-Mart where employees reported the crimes to authorities.

During his preliminary hearing last month, Vaught was bound over on six counts after two counts of aggravated kidnapping were dismissed.

His “not guilty” plea Wednesday was in regards to attempted first degree murder, aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of criminal threat, as well as several misdemeanors.

Vaught remains in the Jackson County Jail on 500-thousand-dollars bond.

This case was lawyer vs. lawyer. The judge never allowed in crucial information that would have told the entire true story. The victim has tried to have 3 other people convicted of these same charges in the past. The accuseds son,age 15, told everyone that his dads girlfriend was crazy and would hit his dad but hed never hit her back so he wanted to go live with his mom. His dad had had custody of him for most of his life. The victim told several people that she broke her nose because she was so drunk and stoned that she walked into the deck post, which the accused said was the truth. She told the insurance company she did it while three wheeling or something. I am all for sticking up for the abused woman in an abused relationship but it is so wrong when a woman can tel a lie and have it snowball so much that an innocent man spends time in jail. Her daughter will remember when she is older that her mom sent an innocent man, a man she cared about to jail.
