(KTNC) - The new Executive Director of the Falls City Chamber of Commerce and Main Street organization was introduced to the City Council Monday night.
Eric Barr began his duties with the Chamber and Main Street organizations at the beginning of September. Barr is not unfamiliar with this part of the country, having grown up in northwest Missouri. He explains his background. (play audio :22)
Barr says he’d like to incorporate his interest in historic preservation with his role as Main Street Director. (play audio :35)
Prior to coming to Falls City, Barr served an internship with the Missouri State Historic Preservation Office in Jefferson City. He previously helped gain the Central Police Station in St. Joseph a listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
Main Street vice president Tony Brunette introduced Barr to the City Council Monday night. Brunette gave a very brief update on the Main Street project, which has seen reconstruction of the sidewalk along the south side of 17th Street between Harlan and Stone.
The intersection of 17th and Stone will be closed late this week as work shifts to that area. Construction will then move to the west side of the 1700 block of Stone Street.
The first part of the Main Street project is expected to be complete by the end of October.
