(KNZA)--The search continues for the driver of a stolen pick-up, who became the subject of a manhunt Sunday in Jackson County.
First wanted for speeding, deputies gave pursuit to the brand new white Nissan pick-up truck, now known to have been stolen from Lawrence, but bearing a stolen Topeka license plate.
The truck's driver, when deputies first attempted the traffic stop on U.S. Highway 75, sped away, with the pursuit continuing as the driver attempted to hide the truck from view, parking along rural roads, as well as a private drive way.
In fact ,that was where the truck was recovered, in a driveway just east of the Q and 198th road intersection.
However, according the Holton Recorder, the driver was not behind the wheel, having fled on foot.
Despite an additional search, involving two tracking dogs, a police helicopter searching from the skies above, and the Prairie Band Potawatomi tribal police, the suspect disappeared.
With no definite description gained of the man, Sheriff Tim Morse is still asking the public to be on the look out; and if any information is known about the suspects whereabouts, tips should be phoned to 785-364-2251.
Morse is also working to dispel a rumor working it's way around the area.
He says there is NO truth to the rumor that a jail break occurred in Jackson County, saying he believes the non-factual information began due to the search for the suspect driver.
