Nebraska Legislature to Look at DUI Law
11/22/2012

(KLZA) Lawmakers will evaluate the effectiveness of Nebraska's driving-under-the-influence laws when they return to the Capitol next year.

The Legislature's Judiciary Committee will hear the findings of an interim study that examines the cost and prevalence of alcohol-impaired driving in Nebraska. Omaha Sen. Burke Harr said Tuesday that he will present the study so lawmakers gain a better understanding of how to prevent drunken driving.

The report will focus on how well Nebraska has addressed the problem in recent years. It also will compare Nebraska to border states and those that are members of the current Big Ten Conference.

The study will explore what can be done to prevent drunken driving besides increasing penalties.
