Falls City School Board Member Honored By State Association

(KLZA) Falls City School Board member Kathy Bartek who has served on the Board for 24 years and recently won re-election for another 4-year term was awarded the Ann Mactier Leadership for Learning Award by the Nebraska State Board of Education and the Nebraska Association of School Boards.  The award was presented at the 2012 State Education Conference in La Vista.
    Bartek has served on nearly every committee the Nebraska Association of School Boards has and served as the organizations President in 2000.
    In addition Bartek was heralded for her work with school districts of all sizes, as a long-time participant in the Greater Nebraska Schools Association and the Nebraska Rural and Community Schools Association.
    Also cited were Bartek’s professional and volunteer contributions to the Falls City community, including her work with the “Good Beginnings” program, providing services to new mothers and their babies.  She is also the adult diabetic education program director in Falls City, has served as a Sunday School teacher, served on the Falls City Chamber of Commerce and has been active in the Band, Chorus and Booster Clubs at Falls City. 
    In her letter of nomination for the award Kathy Danek of Lincoln said “Bartek has provided a calm sense of leadership, a compassioned will to get things accomplished, a friendly hand to new board members, both locally and statewide and a voice for Nebraska’s school children.
