The Postal Service hasn't announced yet what the new hours of operation will be.

The Bern Post Office is currently open from 7:30 to 12:30 and from 1:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday.  In addition, it's open Saturday morning's from 7:30 to 9:15.

The reduction in hours could take effect in 30 days.

Sheik says Bern residents voiced their concerns about the change...( continue audio )

Among those on hand for the meeting were State Senator Dennis Pyle,  State Representative Randy Garber and a representative from the office of Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins.

The Postal Service announced last year it would cut hours at 13-thousand post offices nationwide—including 362 in Kansas.  The move is expected to save the service a half-million dollars a year.
