Jefferson County Final School Board Filings
01/23/2013

(KAIR) -- Filings for school board positions in Jefferson County have been finalized with one contested race expected in the region.

Position six in Valley Falls for USD 338 currently held by Sharon Sweeney will be up for grabs in April, as John Shipley, Junior will challenge the incumbent.

Shipley was previously in Position five before moving out of that district.

Thomas Welsh has filed for his former position.

Some school districts in the region had no filings, including USD 341, position six in Oskaloosa and USD 342, position five in McLouth.

Jefferson County Clerk Linda Buttron says in the cases on vacant positions, a write-in could be the winner to that position.

Buttron says filings from cities have not been finalized as the law doesn’t require a representative to send them the day of the deadline.

So far, there’s only one contested race, for Nortonville City Council as three people have filed for two positions.

Steve Belveal and Alan Barnes are new to seeking the office while Troy Frost has filed for re-election.
