(KLZA) Richardson County Commissioners have agreed to move forward with advertising for architectural firms to make proposals to create designs and plans to convert the county-owned, Armory building on the west edge of Falls City into a jail and law enforcement facility.
The commission took the action Tuesday after meeting with Sheriff Randy Houser.
Houser submitted a letter received from AHRS Construction of Bern, Kansas regarding consideration to be appointed as the construction manager for the project.
Sheriff Houser also told Commissioners he would like to move the Sheriff’s office to the Armory building as soon as possible, drawing questions from Commissioner Jim Davidson and an opinion from Board Chairman David Sickel. ( play audio :47 seconds)
In other business, commissioners took no action regarding an agreement previously approved with Falls City Economic Development and Growth Enterprise to provide $20,000 in funding for the 2012-13 fiscal year.
Commissioners received correspondence from a law firm representing David Leon Frederick who has attempted to stop the building of a large grain handling facility on the south edge of Falls City and raised a number of issues concerning the EDGE group.
Commissioners said that at this point none of the money has been transferred to EDGE, and the claim held from last week’s meeting for funding to EDGE continues to be tabled.
Board members reviewed salary comparisons of highway superintendents within the same population and valuation of Richardson County and those in Southeast Nebraska. A motion to increase the salary of Highway Superintendent Scott Huppert 2.5 percent was unanimously approved.
