Identity of Man Fatally Shot by Missouri State Trooper Released
01/30/2013

(KTNC) - The identity of the man fatally shot by a Missouri State Patrol Trooper Monday night has been determined.  Patrol Sergeant Sheldon Lyon says the man was identified as 50-year-old Thomas E. Schroeder of Omaha.
Sgt. Lyon says investigators were able to identify Schroeder Tuesday evening after contacting his family members.  The identification was made more difficult, Sgt. Lyon says, because Schroeder had several drivers’ licenses and other forms of identification in his possession.
Schroeder was shot during a struggle following a traffic stop on Interstate 29 near Craig, Missouri, Monday evening.
The initial report from the State Patrol said the trooper stopped Schroeder for speeding and believed the driver was intoxicated.  A struggle ensued after the trooper attempted to arrest Schroeder, and the trooper fired his weapon during the struggle.
Sgt. Lyon says the trooper was punched several times in the face during the struggle.
The Patrol’s Drug and Crime Control Division is continuing to investigate the incident.  Sgt. Lyon says the incident was captured on the dashboard camera of the trooper’s vehicle.
