(KAIR) -- Atchison Fire crews are investigating a fire that destroyed a vacant home Thursday evening.
Atchison Fire Chief Mike McDermed says crews responded to 124 North 3rd at 8:16.

Crews then had to fight the below zero wind chills, staying outside at the location most of the night to contain the fire.
McDermed says investigators are on the scene to determine the cause of the fire Friday morning.

McDermed says building inspectors are also on the scene to determine if the remains of the home are structurally safe to remain standing or if an emergency demolition may need to be ordered under ordinance.
He says the building is owned by Riverbend Investments.
Contact has yet to be made with the home’s owner.
