USD 113 Board and Teachers Ratify Contract
02/07/2013

( KNZA )-The Prairie Hills USD 113 Board of Education and Teachers Association have ratified a negotiated contract for the current school year.

The board approved the contract during a special meeting Monday evening and teachers gave their approval Wednesday.

Under the contract, Superintendent Dr. Bill Orth says an average teacher will receive an additional about $200 a year or .8 percent increase—excluding health insurance.

Orth says the board also Monday approved a 40 cent an hour raise or about a one percent increase for classified staff.  Classified staff includes secretaries, bus drivers, custodians and food service workers.

Health insurance benefits for staff enrolled in the district’s insurance plan were increased $40 a month.

An impasse was declared in teacher contract negotiations last October.  A federal mediator met with the two sides in December, but an agreement wasn’t reached.

Since then, teachers had been working under the 2011-2012 contact.
