Seneca Branch Street Extension Project Proceeds

 ( KMZA )-The final piece of property needed for the extension of Seneca’s Branch Street has been acquired.  

The Seneca City Council voted Wednesday evening to authorize Mayor Joe Mitchell to sign an agreement with Richard Ayers of Casper, Wyoming for the purchase of five tracts adjacent to the Seneca Motel for $17,704.

The property was acquired through the eminent domain process.  During a hearing on the city’s condemnation suit in December, Nemaha County District Court Judge Jim Patton appointed three appraisers to determine a price for the tracts.

With the final piece of property acquired, the Council also authorized Mayor Mitchell to sign the construction plans for the project, which will be submitted to the Kansas Department of Transportation for approval to put the project out for bid.

KDOT is funding two-million dollars of the extension through a transportation enhancement grant.  In addition to extending Branch Street a half mile from 11th Street to Community Drive, the project also includes a connecting street to U.S. 36—Fairway Drive, with a left-turn lane and acceleration and deceleration lanes.
