Pawnee City Council Approves new Truck Route
02/13/2013

(KTNC) -  After discussing the matter for several months, the Pawnee City Council Monday night approved a resolution designating a new truck route through town.
City Clerk Tammy Stephens tells what the new truck route is.  (play audio  :47)
Stephens says the council opted to not include a weight limit with the new truck route, but will consider an ordinance that would prohibit semi-trailers from being driven on streets other than those included in the designated truck route.
Street Superintendent Evan Wickersham of JEO met with the council about the One and Six Year Street Plan.  Wickersham presented information to the council about setting up what are called special assessment districts.  Stephens says that would help the city pay to pave some streets with concrete.  (play audio   :26)
Stephens says it costs about the same to pave the streets with concrete as with asphalt, but the concrete streets last longer than the asphalt streets.  The council set the public hearing on the One and Six Year Street Plan for 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 25.
Also Monday, the Pawnee City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance to change the time of City Council meetings to 7:00 p.m., rather than the current time of 7:30 p.m.
