New Hiawatha School Board Member Selected

  ( KNZA )--A vacancy has been filled on the Hiawatha school board.

The board voted Monday evening to select Ian Schuetz to fill the unexpired term of Becky Shamburg who resigned last month.

Schuetz was among two candidates seeking to fill the remaining two years of Shamburg's term.  The other candidate was Terry Smith.

Each addressed the board prior to the selection, telling alittle about themselves and why they would like to serve on the board.

Schuetz said his motivation in applying for the position was his two young sons and explained the role he sees for a school board member..( Play audio )

Schuetz is a lifelong resident of Hiawatha and graduated from Hiawatha High School.   

Board President Dave Thompson commended both candidates, saying he didn’t think the board could go wrong with either.

Following his selection, Schuetz took a seat on the board. However, he won't officially become a board member until he's sworn into office at the  Brown County Clerk's office.
