(KAIR) -- Candidates for USD 409 school board in Atchison are making their final campaign stops prior to the local general election Tuesday.
That included a recent candidate’s forum hosted by the Atchison Chamber of Commerce.
Only two of the four candidates vying for three positions attended, incumbents Carrie Sowers and Dr. John Eplee.
Dr. Eplee said with the discussion about continued cutbacks in the Kansas Legislature for Common Education funding, keeping the high standards are key for the school district.

Sowers spoke about what the future of the school district may look like in the next few years.

Incumbent Diane Liebsch was unable to attend and issued a statement outlying her goals while challenger Reverend Clarence Hauk also did not attend.
