( KNZA )-A bridge replacement project is set to begin Monday on K-192 in Jefferson County, weather permitting.
The Kansas Department of Transportation says crews will replace the existing 24-foot bridge over Indian Creek, about 5 miles east of U.S. 59, with a 36-foot wide structure.
Work will take place during daylight hours Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work.
Beginning mid-morning Monday, all lanes over the bridge will be closed and will remain closed during the duration of the project.
A 42-mile marked detour will be provided. Traffic will detour north on U.S. 59 through the city of Atchison and then south on U.S. 73 back to K-192.
King Construction Company, of Hesston, is the primary contractor on the $722,000 project.
The project is scheduled for completion in mid-September, weather permitting.
