(KTNC) - The Pawnee City Council approved an ordinance Tuesday night confirming the sale of a piece of property the city had cleared. Lee and Janice Rogge (rah-ghee) purchased the Sebek property at public auction last week for $8,400. That was considerably more than the $3,500 minimum bid the city set for the property.
On a related note, the council voted to pay Randy Speckman $50 for his time and mileage to conduct the auction. Speckman had offered to conduct the auction at no charge.
On another property matter, the council met with Jerry Graham about his property at 623 7th Street. Graham owns a rental house there, which was badly damaged in a fire in January, and is not able to be salvaged. Graham told the council that he’s asked various groups and individuals about possibly turning the property into a parking area.
City Clerk Tammy Stephens says the council is concerned that the house has not been torn down. (play audio :38)
Graham will meet with the council later this month to tell them what he plans to do with that and another property he owns that’s been deemed a nuisance.
In other business Tuesday, the Pawnee City Council approved the Law Enforcement Agreement with the County. The agreement is for three years, with a two-percent increase in the contract amount each year.
The council approved a contract with HJP Pest Control to spray for mosquitoes this summer. HJP will spray six times – July 3, 17, and 31; August 14 and 28; and September 11.
And the council regretfully accepted the resignation of Council Member Roxann Buman, effective June 30th.
Anyone interested in filling the remainder of Buman’s term, from July 1st through 2016, can apply at the Pawnee City Hall. Mayor Duane Westing will appoint Buman’s replacement, subject to City Council approval.
