Homeowners Sought for Falls City Owner-Occupied Grant Application
04/17/2013

(KTNC) - Falls City homeowners interested in participating in an Owner-Occupied Housing Rehab project are being encouraged to provide information as the city and Southeast Nebraska Development District prepare to seek a grant for the program.
The City Council has given approval for the Housing Advisory Board and SENDD to apply for a Community Development Block Grant from the Department of Economic Development.  They are seeking feedback from potential applicants for the grant pre-application that is due in May.
According to SENDD, Falls City is eligible to seek funds to address eight to 12 owner occupied homes, though there is no guarantee that the city will receive any assistance.  Pre-application forms for interested homeowners are available at City Hall beginning today (Tuesday) and the first deadline to return the information is May 20th.
The city will submit a pre-application to the Department of Economic Development by May 31st, and will continue to take pre-applications through July 1st.  The city’s final application is due to the state by July 19th.
Top priority to receive an owner-occupied grant are those with income at 50-percent of the median income.  Those homeowners may qualify for 100-percent grants.  Homeowners with income of 80-percent of the median income may receive a 50-percent grant.  Construction needs specific to each home would be determined by an inspection.
Pre-applications can be picked up at the City Clerk’s office.
