(KLZA) Richardson County Commissioners Tuesday appointed Brian Dixon of Omaha to the position of Deputy Emergency Management Agency Director beginning May 1st.
Dixon will complete his Bachelor of Science in Crisis & Disaster Management with Emergency Management Focus from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg in May. He will receive an annual salary of $37,500.
Current Emergency Management Agency Director Jim Gerweck informed Commissioners Tuesday that he intends to retire from the full time position of EMA Directors in January 2014 and the appointed Deputy Director will have received sufficient training by that time to move into the Director position.
Gerweck was appointed Emergency Management Director in January 1993 and worked in the Emergency Management Department since 1983. Earlier this year Gerweck informed Commissioners of his intent to retire in the near future and suggested a deputy be hired to work with him for several months.
