(KTNC) - Progress continues to be made on the new Missouri River Bridge at Rulo, though recent weather has delayed the project somewhat.
Construction Manager Mike Habegger, with the Nebraska Department of Roads, says crews poured a little more than half the bridge deck over the river last Thursday, and they’ll begin putting down bridge deck material and tying steel in preparation to pave the remainder of the span.
Even with recent delays, he says they still expect to have the bridge open this summer. (play audio :32)
Habegger says the recent rain, snow, and cooler temperatures have delayed construction by about a week and a half. He says temperatures affect when they can pour the concrete on the bridge decks. (play audio :28)
While paving is done on the bridge span, Habegger says the approaches to the bridge are mostly finished, with some minor work yet to complete on the Missouri side of the river. (play audio :35)
The section of the bridge deck that was poured last week was from Pier R-1 on the Nebraska side of the river to Pier R-3, which is just over halfway across the river.
