Registration has been extended to Friday May 10 for the
women's  conservation tour, "Mom, Apple Pie and Conservation",
Wednesday,May 15, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30  p.m. The bus tour and lunch at Red Rock Guest
Ranch are free for those registering by May 10. The tour will visit
conservation practices on farms in southwest Brown, southeast Nemaha and
northern Jackson counties, and includes presentations from conservational
professionals.   

The tour and free lunch are sponsored by the Brown, Nemaha and Jackson
County Conservation Districts, the Delaware WRAPS, Glacial Hills RC& D,
the Kansas Association of Conservation Districts, and the Kansas Rural Center
(KRC) for women in the area.  

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on May
15 at the Glacial Hills Enterprise Center at the corner of Kansas and
Second Street in Wetmore, Ks. The bus will leave at 9 a.m. and return to
Wetmore by 3:30 p.m. 

The tour targets women landowners of all ages, or farm wives and
daughters, who would like more knowledge to help with farm and
conservation decision-making. 

Statistics show that women often end up the landowners or
heirs to farmland, but lack the knowledge of farming practices and
conservation programs to make good management decisions or work with
tenants or other heirs.

Conservational professionals from the Brown, Jackson, and Nemaha
Conservation Districts, along with staff from the Kansas Rural Center,
Delaware WRAPS, Cheney Lake Project, and Meadowlark Extension, and KSU, 
will be on hand to provide information and answer questions on
conservation
programs and management practices.

Conservation practices on the tour include a riparian forest buffer,
alternative livestock watering system, an intensive grazing system,
grassland management, and cover crops in cropland, a solar powered
livestock watering system, and a stream bank stabilization project.
Restroom stops will be available along the way. Lunch and a brief program
will be held at the Red Rock Guest Ranch near Soldier, KS. 

The bus tour and lunch are free to participants who pre-register by May
