Pawnee City School Board Continues Facility Discussion
05/16/2013

(KTNC) - The Pawnee City School Board continued its ongoing discussion about facility improvements during its regular May meeting this week.
The Building and Grounds Committee provided an update to the full board, and Superintendent Stephen Grizzle says the board will continue its discussion during a meeting, scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 3rd.  (play audio   :21)
The board will not take any action during the retreat, and Grizzle says the public is invited to attend the meeting.
On a related note, the board approved a bid of $1,250 from B-2-E Environmental to conduct an asbestos survey of the elementary and cafeteria areas.  Grizzle says asbestos abatement will be a significant cost of any remodeling project, and the survey will give them a better idea of the cost.  (play audio   :22)
In other business Monday night, the Pawnee City School Board approved the recommendation to hire two new teachers for the next year. Grizzle says Taylor Baumert will teach Social Studies and Christina Hilger will be an Art teacher.  (play audio   :14)
Grizzle says the board also approved using Depreciation Funds to pay for several summer maintenance projects, including developing a new parking area on the southeast corner of the track and football field.  (play audio   :31)
The board also set activity admission prices for the next year at $5 for adults and $4 for students.  That’s an increase of a dollar, and is consistent with other Pioneer Conference schools.  Grizzle says the board discussed creating an activity pass for district patrons.
