( KNZA )--Unemployment was down in area northeast Kansas counties in April.
The Kansas Department of Labor Friday released the April unemployment rates.
Locally, Nemaha County had the lowest jobless rate at 3.3 percent while Atchison County had highest at 7.4 percent.
Elsewhere, Leavenworth County’s unemployment rate in April was at 6.8 percent; Doniphan, 6.4 percent; Jefferson, 6.3 percent; Jackson, 5.6 percent; Brown, 5.2 percent; and Pottawatomie County, 4.9 percent.
All the figures were down from March. They were also down from April 2012, except in Jackson County where the rate was the same.
Statewide, the unemployment rate dipped to 5.5 percent last month. The report says the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged lower from 5.6 in March. The rate for April 2012 was 6.1 percent. The number of people applying for jobless benefits also fell.
