(KAIR) -- Second Harvest Community Food Bank celebrated the conclusion of the Food Justice Movement Thursday by exceeding their fundraising goal.
The goal for this year’s campaign was to raise 400 thousand dollars.
As of today, 500 thousand dollars have been raised.
This equals one-point-five million meals being distributed across their service area.
However, these funds only equal about 20 percent of their current operating budget.
The funds collected through the Movement will help expand access to the needy through the Fresh Start, Your Community Market store and the Backpack Buddies, Close the Gap and Food Acquisition programs.
Second Harvest serves 19 counties in Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri.
