(KTNC) - The Falls City, City Council, tabled action on a recommendation from the Health Insurance Committee regarding health insurance for city employees.
Dan Duren with Benefit Management told the council the recommendation was to keep the same policy from Blue Cross Blue Shield, with no premium increase for the next year.
There are 49 employees on the city’s health insurance plan, down from 56 a year ago. Thirty-one are on the traditional plan, and 18 have the high-deductible plan.
Duren recommended the city keep the current plans for another year. After discussion, the council tabled action on the plan until a special meeting next Monday, July 22nd.
In other business, the council approved the first reading of an ordinance regulating tree branches that overhang streets and sidewalks. The ordinance consolidates two ordinances into one. It mandates a clearance of eight feet over sidewalks and 12-feet over streets and alleys.
The council approved three requests from Falls City Mercantile. One request is for no parking signs between 7th and 8th Streets on Chase. The council also approved two requests for curb cuts, one on the northeast corner of 7th and Chase and the other at 711 Chase Street.
And the council approved a request to use city streets and parks for the Cobblestone Fun Run on August 24th. The run will follow the same route as last year.
They also approved a resolution requesting approval from the State of Nebraska to use Harlan Street for the Cobblestone Parade on August 24th. The city needs approval from the state since Harlan Street is a State Highway. Approval is needed 30 days prior to the parade.
