Atchison's Amelia Bridge To Light Up the Night
07/19/2013

(KAIR)--The "Concert In the Sky" Fireworks spectacular in Atchison Saturday night is expected to again light up the night sky and provide an impressive site, serving each year as the grand finale to the weekend's Amelia Earhart Festival.

However, that won't be the only lighting display planned for the night, as the newly constructed Amelia Earhart Memorial Bridge, visible as the fireworks are launched over the Missouri River, will prove to be a post show attraction.

Atchison City Manager Trey Cocking says a demonstration of the lights installed on the bridge will happen after the fireworks, with each color scheme to last for around 30 seconds.

Contractor Capital Electric currently retains control of the lights, but will train city staff how to use them.

The default color scheme of the bridge lighting is blue and green, which has already been visible on the bridge, as was red, white and blue, displayed on the 4th of July.

Other colors will include those representing local and regional schools and colleges, as well as as pink for breast cancer awareness, among others.

Cost of the lighting, which falls on the city, was included as part of the original price tag of the bridge,
