Pawnee City Council Approves Salary Ordinance
07/24/2013

(KTNC) - The Pawnee City Council approved a salary ordinance Monday night, after making changes to the ordinance proposed at the first July meeting.
The council approved an additional 50-cent increase for City Crew member Jeff Spier, after he passed his sewer certification test.  The ordinance also increases the amount of the annual Christmas bonus for city employees from $60 to $75.  The council suspended the three readings and approved the final reading of the salary ordinance Monday night.
The council approved the second reading of amendments to the water ordinance.  That calls for the water rate for a three-quarter-inch meter to increase to $24.50 on October 1st, and to be adjusted by 50-cents a year through 2016.
In other business Monday night, Shop Foreman Clint Johnson updated the council on upcoming sewer slip-lining projects.
Johnson said the city will slip-line three small sections of sewer line.  One area is from the pool to the street to the west, where there are a lot of roots in the line.
He said they will also slip-line an area in the northeast part of town, and they will look into a solution to fix a small portion of sewer line near the sewer plant that was not replaced when the new sewer plant was built.
The council continued discussion of the parking situation in front of Nider’s Thriftway.  Council member Sandy Corbett-Sears recommended making the area along the curb in front of the Thriftway store and the SENCA building a no parking zone, as a way to alleviate parking and traffic issues in the area.  A resolution to that effect will be brought before the council at a future meeting.
And the fees for camping at the Pawnee City campground will increase slightly, to $12 for campers and $6 for tents.  The increase is to cover lodging taxes and fees the city is required to pay.
