(KAIR)--It's a program implemented earlier this year, but, in some instances, just now being noticed in rural communities of Atchison County.
That's where Sheriff Jack Laurie has directed his deputies to visit during the late night hours, making stops in Effingham and Lancaster, among other locations, to make certain that businesses are properly secured while workers are away.
Laurie says the program isn't based on any ongoing criminal activity, but is a simple way for his team to visibly deter crime in the rural communities.
Laurie says the business security checks have generated a positive response.
