(KTNC) - An application to have downtown Falls City declared a Historic District will go before a state board in September.
The Nebraska Preservation Board will review the nomination that’s been prepared by Falls City Main Street Executive Director Eric Barr. (play audio :19 “by December.”)
The area included in the nomination is along Stone Street from 15th to 19th, as well as a portion of Chase Street, Prichard Auditorium, and the former City Hall Building.
The application includes details of buildings in the downtown area. Barr says he spent 100 hours researching and another 80 hours writing the nomination. (play audio :14 “things like that.”)
During a noontime meeting with a few downtown property owners Tuesday, Barr stressed that the listing as a Historic District is honorary, and places no restrictions on what property owners could do with their buildings.
No objections were raised during the meeting, but several asked about financial incentives should they renovate their buildings.
Barr says the listing would make buildings eligible for federal and state tax incentives. He said the listing would also open up other marketing and tourism benefits for the area.
A copy of the nomination is on file for public viewing, by request, at the Main Street office at 1705 Stone Street.
