( KMZA )--The new school colors for the Nemaha Central school district beginning in the 2014-2015 school year will be purple and blue.
The board of education made that decision at their regular meeting Monday.
The board also decided that the names of the buildings starting next school year will be the Nemaha Central Elementary/Middle School and Nemaha Central High School.
In addition, the board made some adjustments to the mascot committee and process. This year’s 11th graders and 8th grade students from the Sts. Peter and Paul school were added to the group of students that will be making the final vote for the new mascot.
Superintendent Darrel Kohlman told the board more than 50 mascot suggestions were submitted by the August 1st deadline.
The mascot committee, consisting of students and staff, will now narrow them down to five by October 1st. The school board will then narrow the list down further at their October board meeting for a final vote by 6th-11th grade students at B & B and Nemaha Valley Schools along with 8th grade students from Sts. Peter and Paul.
The board voted earlier this year to close the B & B Junior/Senior High School at the end of the 2013-2014 school year, with students to attend schools in Seneca.
