(KNZA)--The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is called in to assist the probe into the shooting death of an Atchison man earlier this week.
Doniphan County Sheriff Chad Clary says it happened around 2:30 Monday morning, southwest of Troy, at a residence located at 1057 Hickory Point Road, with an ambulance called to the scene.
KQ2 News is reporting that the person who made the report claimed that the victim had shot himself. An official report on exactly what happened remains unreleased.
According to Clary, the victim, identified as 25-year-old Matthew Sollars, and four others were at the residence at the time of the shooting.
Sollars was rushed to Heartland Regional Medical Center, in Saint Joseph, for treatment of the gunshot wound, but died Tuesday due to complications.
Clary says because the investigation at the scene wasn't adding up, the KBI was called.
They arrived in Troy Wednesday and began to reconstruct the scene where the shooting happened.
Meanwhile, funeral services for Sollars remain pending.
