(KAIR)-- Atchison City Commissioners on Wednesday unanimously approved a 2014 budget that calls for just over 9.1 million dollars in total expenditures.
City Manager Trey Cocking says there will be a small increase in the mill levy, about 1.288 mills, to offset lower property valuations assessed over the past year.
Cocking outlines a few of the major points within the budget.

The budget also provides for the hiring of a downtown mall coordinator.
Cocking says during the meeting several downtown business owners spoke in favor of creating the new position, designed to draw businesses to the downtown area. He adds that a timeline for hiring someone to the post has not been set.
