(KNZA)--A busy Monday evening for Jackson County area rescue crews, with two structure fires breaking out around the same time.
Sheriff Tim Morse says the first one was reported shortly after 7:00, at 10625 U.S. Highway 75, just outside of Hoyt. Local fire departments rushed to the scene, described as a trailer home, where a fire began in the kitchen The family escaped without injury, with crews successfully extinguishing the fire, leaving the damage confined to the kitchen and a bedroom.
It's believed a faulty appliance is to blame.
As that fire was being battled, Morse says a second report came in regarding a structure fire north of Holton, at 27598 P Road. A shed had caught fire, with the blaze threatening to spread to a nearby house. Two outbuildings were destroyed, as local fire departments worked to bring it under control. Ultimately, the residence closest to the outbuildings was spared, incurring only limited damage to its eastside.
No injuries are reported, and arson is not suspected. The investigation into the cause is ongoing.
