(KLZA) The Auburn Board of Public Works Board of Directors met recently. General Manager David Hunter informed the Board preliminary preparations are being made for the 2014 budget. He said due to the age and condition of some vehicles he wants to include replacement of three vehicles in the next budget. It was the consensus of the Board to have the replacement of vehicles included in the 2014 budget. Final purchasing decisions will be made during the year prior to any purchase.
Hunter also noted Auburn has been approved for a $10,000 security grant from the Department of Health and Human Services to purchase a backup emergency generator for the reservoir. The grant will require a match of up to $10,000 from the BPW. Board members approved acceptance of the water grant.
Board members also approved installation of a radio repeater system in Brownville at a cost of approximately $6,000. Hunter noted safety concerns when crews are in Brownville due to the lack of reliable radio or cell phone communications.
Permission was also given to write bid specifications and advertise for bids to replace the Board of Public Works Office telephone system at a cost of up to $12,000. Replacement phones are no longer available for the current system.
Hunter was also granted permission to sell some used and junk equipment at Casper’s Consignment Auction.
