(KTNC) - It’s a tradition at many parades for spectators to receive candy handed out as floats pass by. Humboldt area churches hope to stand that tradition on its head during the upcoming Richardson County Fair Parades. They’re joining together for a food drive – asking people who attend the parades to bring canned food items that will be collected along the parade route and donated to the SENCA Food Pantry.
Pastor Michael McKee of the Humboldt United Methodist Church says the food drive started as an idea for the Methodist Church to collect food on their own float during the parades and grew from there.
In addition to the food drive during the parades, Pastor McKee says there will be other opportunities to donate to the food pantry during the fair.
Pastor McKee encourages everyone who comes to any of the three parades during the fair to bring a canned food item to fill the shelves of the SENCA Food Pantry.
The parades begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday during the Richardson County Fair.
