(KNZA)--The Doniphan County Commission has adopted a 2014 budget that calls for total expenditures of nearly $10 million and a 1.4 mill property tax levy increase.
The action came following a hearing Tuesday drawing no public comment.
The budget contains an estimated tax rate of 43.879 mills, which is to generate more than 4 ½ million dollars.
In other business, representatives of Heartland Regional Medical Center and the city of Elwood met with the commission to discuss the change in operations for the ambulance service that currently services Buchanan County, Missouri along with Elwood.
Effective July 1st, 2014, Heartland will no longer operate an ambulance service. The Buchanan County Commission has proposed having the county take over the service and have placed a quarter-cent sales tax proposal on the November ballot to fund the service.
Dirk Clark, Chief Strategy Officer with Heartland Health, suggested representatives from Doniphan County and the city of Elwood meet with officials from Buchanan County to discuss continued ambulance service in Elwood.
Elwood City Attorney Joel Euler said he has set up a committee to review options for providing ambulance service to the residents of Elwood.
