Kansas Secretary of Agriculture Dale Rodman and Kansas Education Commissioner Diane DeBacker along with First Lady Mary Brownback will take part in a Farm to School Celebration on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013.
The event and tour will include presentations at West Middle School, 2700 Harvard Rd., where the Secretary and Commissioner will enjoy lunch with students. The meal will be prepared using more than 50 percent locally grown or processed products. Following lunch, there will be a tour of the school garden and presentations from students about the learning taking place while growing food.
The second stop of the tour will be at Moon on the Meadow Farm, 1515 E. 11th, Lawrence. Growers will discuss the challenges of local food distribution.
The final stop is Hilltop Child Development Center, 1605 Irving Hill Rd., Lawrence, where First Lady Mary Brownback will read to pre-school students. A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) pickup location will also be taking place at this location.
