Duane Olberding, Executive Director of Professional Treatment Services, LLC located in Lawrence, Kansas. Professional Treatment Services is an outpatient treatment program specializing in chemical and behavioral addictions. He is the past president of the Kansas Coalition on Problem Gambling, past member of the Kansas Association of Addiction Professionals Executive Board, served on the Kansas Social and Rehabilitative Services Kansas Committee, and is a current board member of Kansas Family Partnership.
Mr. Olberding and his staff have developed the model described in his presentation. The Serenity Model of Recovery. ™ is a unifying theory of addiction, unifying the understanding of the cause, nature and ultimately the treatment of both chemical and behavioral addictions. The unification of understanding is based on the intrinsic cause of addiction…….the addicted client’s attempts to lessen anxiety by whatever means they have learned will do so, ingesting a chemical or performing anxiety lessening behavior.
The presentation will be valuable to all audiences including those with addictions and their families. It will also be offered by the Hiawatha Community Hospital as a means to earn CEU credit at a cost of $20.00. It will be presented FREE OF CHARGE to the public, but please call 785-288-1573 to register for seating.
This presentation is sponsored by NAMI Pony Express and the Hiawatha Community Hospital.
